CORPORATE Environment Strategy for Private Sector Operations Department, Asian Development Bank
Preparation of the departmental Environment Strategy for the Private Sector Operations Department (PSOD) of the Asian Development Bank. The Strategy identifies major environmental challenges in Asia and the Pacific, and sets the environmental direction, performance targets and implementation actions for PSOD’s US$1.9 billion annual financing portfolio (2007) to optimize the benefits of this funding. A workshop was run for department staff on the Strategy, emerging environmental issues, ADB procedures and project compliance issues.
PROJECT West Seti Hydroelectric Project EIA, Nepal
Management of an Environmental Impact Assessment for a 750 MW hydroelectric project incorporating a 195 m high dam, 2,060 ha reservoir and 133 km transmission line. This complex hydropower project involved the preparation of a seven volume EIA, including an Environmental Management Plan detailing construction and operation impact mitigation measures and environmental and social improvements, and a Resettlement Action Plan. Major tasks included EIA scoping, preparation of study Terms of Reference, conducting public consultation and liaison with Government authorities.
PROJECT Power Distribution and Greater Mekong Sub-Region Project, Cambodia
Preparation of Initial Environmental Examinations (IEEs) for two high voltage transmission lines - Vietnam to Phnom Penh (128 km) and Kampot to Sihanoukville (78 km). The IEEs involved route selection and assessed land use, flora and fauna issues, flooding hazard, household and business relocation and the supply of electricity to rural areas, and incorporated an Environmental Management Plan.
